MSU’s American Marketing Association Successfully Holds Eight Annual Marketing Week

Activities Include LinkedIn Workshop, Sports Marketing Panel, Outbound Sales Competition,

and WestPaw Tour

Bozeman, MT - Oct. 14, 2023 - The award-winning American Marketing Association (AMA) at

Montana State held its eighth annual Marketing Week Monday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 14.

This annual event opens up opportunities for students of all majors to gain a better understanding

of the local and national marketing industry.

Looking back on the week Deanna Dalton, this year's Vice President of Programs stated,

Marketing week is an opportunity for our members to not only build upon their professional

development and marketing skills but also have fun doing it. This year had so many options

including touring an amazing local business WestPaw, working on sales pitches, learning about

the sports marketing world, and how to build a solid LinkedIn profile.

Details and schedule of events include:

● Game Night Social: Monday, Oct. 9

○ A root beer float ice cream social that included a fun trivia night allowed students

to meet with each other and team bond.

● LinkedIn Workshop: Tuesday, Oct. 10

○ Jordan Komoto, an HR professional from WestPaw, ran a workshop helping

students upgrade their LinkedIn profiles.

● Sports Marketing Panel - sponsored by Bobcat Sports: Wednesday, Oct. 11

○ Professionals on the Marketing Panel included Maddy Ouellette, a graduate

assistant for Bobcat Athletics, Rodger Wexelberg, the GM for Bobcat Sports,

Megan Whol, who facilitated a rebrand for the Bozeman Icedogs, and Andrew

Garcia, a Sports Marketer for the Arizona Cardinals. Students could ask questions

about the sports marketing industry and were able to listen to the professional's

experiences in their field and their schooling. This allowed students to gain

insight into how to get themselves into sports marketing positions someday.

● CED Outbound Sales Competition: Thursday, Oct. 12

○ Participants had the opportunity to make an outbound sales call to a prospective

client, attempting to earn a follow-up sales meeting. There were over two dozen

participants in this year's competition.

● WestPaw Tour: Friday, Oct. 13

○ Cary Kessenich, the Director of Marketing and Customer Experience at WestPaw

held a tour of WestPaw. Students were given a full tour of their manufacturing

facility and marketing department and were able to ask questions to get a better

understanding of WestPaw and their manufacturing, sales, and marketing process.

● Volunteering Opportunity: Saturday, Oct. 14

○ Sack’s Thrift Store

The winner of this year's CED Outbound Sales Competition is Kylie Smith, a senior marketing

major. In this competition, the participants were all given the same prompt in which they

conducted a three-minute call, attempting to earn a follow-up meeting with the sales prospect.

Competitors were evaluated on their performance and use of sales tactics to persuade the

prospect. Having won the competition, Smith will receive $500 to help finance her trip to the

annual AMA International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans next Spring. This event was

sponsored by Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED), a Bozeman-area energy supply

business.

The American Marketing Association is the student-led chapter of the AMA at Montana State
